Now this may sound lame, but by far my favorite feature of the Inca was that they had domesticated animals. I love animals. They are one of my favorite things. Although I don't like the idea of animals in captivity, I still am interested in the animals the Inca's tamed and what they were used for, so without further ado I bring you a list of Inca animals and their uses.
1. Guinea Pigs- I'm sorry to say but the Inca ate these cute little guys.
2.Guanaco/Llamas- The llama and the guanaco are two of the four species of camel in the Americas. They were used as beasts of burden. Although they could only carry 100 pounds at most the llama and guanaco made up for it since they had great wind resistance, were used to climbing on mountains, and they were faster than horses. Unfortunately neither of these great animals like to be ridden.
Random Fact: Llamas get aggravated easily and when they are there best weapon is spitting. Llamas are known to spit in their owners eye when mad.
3. Alpaca- Alpaca's are another species of American camel. Alpaca's were the Inca's sheep. The Inca weaved magnificent wool into to warm cozy wool jackets. P.S The Alpaca is basically a hairier version of the llama with less anger issues.
4.Vicuñas-. Vicuñas are the final species of American camel. They were used for the same reason as the alpaca except their fur is even more valued because it is much softer and Vicuñas are much shier and harder to tame.
In conclusion, the Inca essentially tamed the four species of American camel and Guinea Pigs. Good for them!
